Green and Sustainable/Eco Arts

Today artist are working with many different mediums, and a critical medium worth exploring further is Green, Sustainable Eco Arts. This practice employs the use and theory of utilizing sustainable technology, recycled materials, or natural mediums to commence a dialog regarding the re-articulation of our environmental responsibilities.

Phase 1: Introduction and Theory

Participants will explore the theory and practice of:
- Green and Sustainable/Eco Arts
- Building with green products
- Utilizing sustainable technology in electronic arts
            Solar, Wind, Hydro, Geothermal
            Creating a medium for critical dialog
- Resources for finding recycled and re-appropriated materials
- The art of engineering green
- Leave no trace events/cultures
- Green-washing media/advertising
- Challenging your audience

Phase 2: Practical Experience: Eco Art collaboration

Students will work in groups with the guidance of the instructor as they propose, design and build a piece of green/sustainable technology art or media. The piece must be commenting or socially challenging to the public regarding issues of ecology and arts.

Students will have an opportunity to visit an artist workshop, which focuses upon re-appropriated design for various eco-arts.

Phase 3: Finishing Process and Perspectives

An evaluation and feedback session will be held so participants can have an opportunity to improve in the future with regards to technique, skill, or style. A final gallery showing of student art will be shown at the end of the workshop.
