Theories in Video Mixing

Students will examine the different aspects and styles of video mixing. They will be introduced to different artists whom represent these styles and theories, giving them a uniquely personal portrait of the visual artist of the 21st Century.

Phase 1: Introduction and Theory

Participants will explore the theory and practice of:
- History of Video Mixing (Artists and technology)
- Concepts of Video Mixing
            Sound reactive
            Narrative
            Re-mix/Sample
            Live Cameras
- Technical aspects of live video mixing
- Hardware (Video Mixer, Video Camera, Projectors)
- Video Mixing Software
            Arkaos
            Resolume
            Keyworx
            VDMX/Grid
            Max MSP/Jitter
            Module 8
- Custom animations in Flash for Video Mixing

Phase 2: Practical Experience: Creating Live Video Performances

Students Create an Event featuring Live Video Mixing and Performances. Under the supervision of the workshop leaders, participants will learn to create and develop a live video patch for mixing. Students will learn how to use software they already know like Photoshop, Final Cut Pro and Flash for video mixing. This will enable them so they may create custom visuals to use during their live performance.

Phase 3: Finishing Process and Perspectives

An evaluation and feedback session will be held as we critique our final projects and performances. Students will perform short pieces where they mix video within one of the key concept formats.
